COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT volunteering
Community development work encompasses principles such as social justice, human rights, empowerment and inclusion in order to create stronger and more connected communities.
It’s a holistic approach, which means action and change is identified and driven collectively by the community members themselves, while supported by agencies. Addressing the causes of inequality and disadvantage, community development focuses on redistributing power to change a neighbourhood or empower disadvantaged groups from within.
For our community development volunteers, it’s an exciting way to make real change in society, and Vollie is delighted to be onboard.
Become one of our Community Development Volunteers
Here’s the thing. You might wish to be involved in community-led development, yet maybe you live remotely and are physically removed from the community itself. Surely being part of the community means being present in that community? Or you’re too much of a card-carrying introvert to be a hands-on volunteer. Or you’re staying safe by staying home.
Yet by joining Vollie, you can virtually volunteer from anywhere, any time. We mean it! You’ll be donating your time online with community building volunteering, using your virtual skill set. Which means you are very much a valued part of the community. That’s the beauty of community volunteering with Vollie.
Community building volunteering
You could cover anything from working on strategy, to creating materials and shooting videos... from raising awareness and building projects, to running social media groups and creating feedback forms. You might be ideating, brain-storming, implementing, collating data and evaluating. You might be gathering knowledge from community members or researching and offering your own.
Vollie volunteering offers the 21st century way to help causes you’re passionate about. There’s no need to be out on the street collecting donations while wearing an organisation’s T-shirt – size XXL ‘cause that’s all they had left. No need to be handing out flyers or approaching pedestrians with a clipboard. Not that there’s anything wrong with all that – but it’s not what Vollie needs you to do.
Vollie needs its community volunteers to wear their thinking caps, their hearts on their sleeves, their willingness to be part of community change. Meanwhile, from the comfort of your laptop in the comfort of home, you can wear your pyjamas if you want. Or a tutu or sombrero, or your favourite Donald Duck boxer shorts.
